"Good" People
Do good and good will come to you,
Isn’t this what we are told?
Brought up with these values ingrained,
On this idea we’re all sold.
How selfish would one have to be
To live by this with pride?
If I don’t gain by saving you
I’d simply watch you die?
We pray to god for things we want
We get down on all fours.
But we can’t even lend a hand
To help mum with her chores.
I’d feed the homeless for a year
I’ll give clothes to the needy.
But only if I get that car
Cos well, you know, I’m greedy!
We wish for heaven, that’s all we want
The sinners go to hell.
We’d do anything to save our spot.
Some would even their souls sell.
Your karma catches up with you,
All we do is with this in our mind.
But does one need a promised land
To simply be more kind?
With all we see in the world right now,
Things we wish we could dispel.
Maybe the earth that we call home
is just another planet’s hell.
