How To Set Up Your Website On WordPress
With this article I aim to help you to start from scratch and setting up a working WordPress website complete with a custom domain and hosting.
Step 1: Visit https://in.godaddy.com/
Visit the GoDaddy website and select ‘WordPress’ under the ‘More’ option in the top bar. This will take you to the package listings for setting up a WordPress website with GoDaddy.
Step 2: Select the web hosting plan of your choice
Select the plan that suits your requirements, though for beginners, I would definitely recommend the Basic plan as it offers everything that one would require to set up a more than decent working website. Add the plan to your cart and proceed to the next step
Step 3: Select the term length
If you’ve chosen the Basic plan, then I’d strongly recommend that you choose the 36 month term length as it is extremely economical and in fact, costs lesser than the 24 month term length. Otherwise, you could choose a 1 month plan to try out the service before deciding to commit for a longer time. I didn’t not select the add on of “Essential Website Security” as WordPress does have a lot of plugins that offer similar functionality.
Step 4: Choose a domain name
If you chose the 36 month term length, you will also get a free domain name. Enter your desired domain name and check it’s availability. Once you’ve shortlisted your domain name, select it and proceed to the next step.
Step 5: Complete the payment
Verify all the details and continue to check out, complete the payment and your dashboard will be ready.
NOTE: By default, the term period of the domain name registration would be chosen as 1 year, but if you select 3 years, then also it is free if you would’ve selected the 36 month plan. So make sure you check the maximum term length for which the domain registration is free and select that.
Step 6: WordPress Dashboard
Navigate to the “My Products” page from the menu, under the “Managed WordPress” tab, you should now see your website, click on “Manage” and on the next page select “Go to Customizer”. This will take you to your WordPress website which will have a Theme preinstalled. Your website is now live and ready to personalise!
